Juice jacking is a hacking technique that uses public phone charging kiosks to upload malware to your device and steal your data or lock your phone. The FBI warns the public to avoid using charging kiosks at all costs. Here are 5 things to avoid when traveling and charging your personal devices.

  • Don't use public USBs, just outlets
  • Don't use a cable at all - use wireless charging pads instead of USBs when possible. Because this method doesn't exchange data with your phone, it's "virus-free" by default.
  • Don't use a data cable - pack a charge-only cable for your trip as they don't allow for data transfer.
  • Don't choose the "trust" option - some phones will ask if your want to "trust this device" or "share data" when plugging into an unknown USB port. Always say no when traveling.
